Name Game Quiz
by Melody Lassalle

I've added to this website four articles in the series "The Problem with Names". A major part of genealogy is the ability to decipher cryptic record. Here's your chance to test your knowledge. Below are some examples of the many ways Portuguese names are recorded. See if you can figure out what the real Portuguese names should be. To make this just a little more challenging, I've made the font cursive. Albeit, a little neater than most recorders would write, but still closer to what you'd see in real records. As an extra challenge, check out the Bonus Names. These names appeared in the 1900 U.S. Census for the district of Honolulu. In all cases, the surname makes no sense whatsoever. And, I have no clue what they really are. If you figure them out, email me at: Email IslandRoutes
