As I stepped from the cool air conditioned airport into the heavy, humid air of Montego Bay, my glasses fogged up. A common, irritating occurrence at home during the summer, made charming by the fact that I was in Jamaica for a few days of sun, sand and spas! While humid, it was temperate and, after a quick stop at Tastee Patties for a ‘welcome’ beef patty, the cool greeted me again as I loaded into the van to head to the resort.

Last month, IRCAT’s marine division completed a mandatory training workshop where the team members were given refresher courses in life-raft drills, fire-on board drills and man-overboard drills. Each member of their Marine Division is also a lifeguard, certified in first-aid and CPR.

“For all the captains and crew on the sea vessels, yes the entertainment of the guests is important, but their safety is our top priority, and that is why we work so hard to train them,” said Captain Mitch Pilon, IRCAT’s Revenue Fleet Manager, who was the chief instructor at the training workshop, held at Sandals Royal Caribbean on February 27. The two and a half-year-old company is still the only tour company to be recognised with the Six Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences and was this year awarded the World’s Leading Caribbean Attraction Company, both awards for the second consecutive year.

March 28, 2012 - Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours (IRCAT) was in full flight promoting Jamaica and the Caribbean as the ultimate travel destination, at the one-day Liberty Travel Expo 2012 in New Jersey, on Sunday March 18.

The Travel Expo, saw travel specialists from the US, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean, as well as over 6500 persons in attendance.

Island Routes Tours, the largest tour and excursion company in the Caribbean, used the opportunity to promote the range of cultural and heritage, marine, adventure and eco tours offered within the seven Island Routes destination in the region. The company used the consumer event to showcase the rich diversity of attractions offered to visitors within the Caribbean.
