Top 5 Foods and Restaurants You Must Try in Curaçao

The Caribbean is such a beautiful place. No matter what island you visit, it almost seems like - though the experience is much different on each - the feedback is the same; beautiful sights, amazing adventures and deliciously, exotic meals. If you have visited places like Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Bahamas or Antigua, then already we know that you’ll love Curaçao.

There are so many stunning things to see and do on the island, but today we will focus on some of the amazing food choices ready and waiting for your tasting. Let’s get into it!

The Blue Curaçao

The bittersweet taste of the Blue Curaçao is known widely in the Caribbean. The exotic alcohol is flavored by the taste of a unique orange peel from the Lahara Orange otherwise called the Curaçao Orange, only grown on the island of Curaçao. Contrary to its name, the Blue Curaçao does not get its color from the Lahara Orange but instead the liquor used is artificially colored to give the iridescent blue that makes the drink so easily identifiable. The Blue Curaçao is made up of 25% alcohol with a similar taste to the Triple Sec but not quite, as it hones its own uniqueness.

Pastels by day, luminous by night, 24/7 Curaçao keeps the vibrancy alive.

Keshi Yenå

It would be an injustice if we did not say this was a local favourite. Curaçoans all over the island would agree that the Keshi Yená is the ultimate comfort food. While some of us lean on sweet treats and buttery delights to take us through the roughest times, in Curaçao, the locals would recommend chicken, meat, vegetables and raisins healthily coated in flavorful Gouda Cheese. The Keshi Yená, while filled with the rich history of the island, is filled with even more flavor and leaves all its tasters yearning for more.

The Keshi Yená and a glass of the Blue Curaçao is the island's penultimate meal.

Fort Nassau Restaurant

As its name suggests, the Fort Nassau Restaurant in the 18th century was used as a base to watch the surrounding seas for invaders to the island of Curaçao. Today, the converted military station is the ideal location for a stunning meal and sunset combo. Though considered a National Monument, home to historic Cannons and Prison Cells, the quasi-openair restaurant creates the perfect atmosphere for a romantic night out in the Country of Curaçao.

The Goat Burger/Williburger

Whether this is the ‘greatest of all time’ burger or a burger made from goat meat or both, this delicacy saw its birth in Toko Williwood, Curaçao. Down in Williwood, you can order anything you want, anything...but in the end, whatever you have decided, will amount to a mouth-watering serving of the island’s famous goat burger. Paired with the sightings of pink flamingos, blue drinks, sweet potato chips and an in-house sauce, the Williburger or, as most call it, the goat burger, is a must have while in Curaçao.

Netto Bar

The Netto Bar is the oldest bar on the island of Curaçao and is home to the Netto Green, better known as the world famous Green Rum (Ròm Bèrdè). The sweet rum has been described to have a taste like licorice; and the homey vibes of the owner and patrons of the establishment make taking shots an all day event. Like many good rums, there is a tale behind the flavors. It is said that only the owner of the bar knows the secret to creating the divine taste. The combination of the liquors is only traded when one owner steps down and another takes his place.

Like the architecture, food in Curaçao creates an interesting experience. Also riddled with brilliant colors, the food tells the story of the island beautifully and leaves you with memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
